The Story Of Headless Chicken- Mike

On Sept 10, 1945, something happens in Fruita, Colorado, which fascinated the scientists all over the world. It was the day when a miracle happens in the house of a farmer named Lloyd Olsen. It was the day when they planned to have chicken meat on dinner, as it was the marriage anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Olsen. they were planning to eat supper with his mother-in-law and so Mrs. Olsen sent her husband to the farm to bring a chicken.

Olsen chose a five-and-a-half-month-old Wyandotte chicken. He made preparations to cut that chicken. He placed it on the plank. He picked up the axe and hit it hard but the target missed it a bit. Chickenhead cut but half, only his eye and peak was cut, but most parts of the brain were left. That chicken ran very hard from  Lloyd's grip, Lloyd was shocked to see this, he tried to hold that chicken but he failed, he thought that after some time chicken will die itself then he will catch it.  Then after some time Lloyd comes back to the farm to see if the chicken has died, but he was surprised to see that the chicken was still wandering in the farm, then he tries again to grab the chicken And this time Lloydsuccessful to catch the chicken. Lloyd surprise to see that chicken was still alive and show movements.

Lloyd soon understands that this rooster was not going to die, Lloyd felt pity for the rooster. He started nursing him and named him Mike-"The headless chicken";. He put droppers in the mike neck so that he could eat and breathe. Lloyd takes care of that chicken. he feeds him on time.

One day he takes Mike outside. When people saw Mike outside, there was a stir. Everyone was surprised. Why not be surprised!  as they finally saw a wonder. Soon there was a long line of reporters at his house. many companies, night shows, and circus tied up with him, and soon mike become famous all over America. Until now Lloyd had not earned as much from farming as he would from Mike in a few days. These were all surprising. People were shocked to see MikePeople could not remove the eye from the mike.

one day after returning from the show, mike's throat starts choking at midnight, as a grain of corn has trapped in his windpipe and lead by mistake left the dropper at the same place where they were doing the show. After all,  Mike is finally dead 18 months after being beheaded.

Finally, the story of this miraculous chicken is over.

The post-mortem revealed that even after biting Mike's head, a part of his brain has left which operates his body. According to the report, Mike had lost his eye, peak, face but 80% of his brain was left. Due to which Mike's body, heartbeat, respiratory system, appetite, and digestive system continue to run. 

Mike the Headless Chicken is now an institution in Fruita, Colorado, The 'Headless Chicken' Festival is celebrated every year in Fruita, USA one every third weekend of May, which was celebrated on1999 for the first time. Events held include the "5K Run Like a Headless Chicken Race", egg toss, "Pin the Head on the Chicken", the "Chicken Cluck-Off", and "Chicken Bingo", in which chicken droppings on a numbered grid choose the numbers.

Mike the Headless Chicken was an inspiration for the poultry-themed comedy punk band The Radioactive Chicken Heads ( are an American band formed in Santa Ana, California in 1993), serving as the subject of their 2008 song "Headless Mike", for which a music video was filmed. The band also organised a Headless Mike puppet which is frequently used in their live shows.
